America VS Sweden

Translation:
When I was in Germany we went to a neat little English bookstore and I found an interesting book, “Xenophobe’s guide to the Americans”, which I bought. On the front cover is a picture of the Statue of Liberty, McDonald’s fries and dollar bills. First thought was that it was very…. Dead on haha. Nah.. Or… Kinda…
I thought I'd try my hand at making a comparison of the Swedish people vs the proud Americans. (From my point of view .... how I see the Americans in general, and Swedes in general).

I’m going to quote one thing that is printed on the first page of this book:
“Sit next to an American on an airplane and he will immediately address you by your first name, ask “So how do you like it in the States?”, explain his recent divorce in intimate detail, invite you home for dinner, offer to lend you money and wrap you up in a warm hug on parting”.

I am not going to argue that, not at all. I remember my first weeks in the U.S., I was so shocked by how friendly, welcoming and generous people are there. Ok, at first I was really fascinated just by the fact that everyone I met said 'Hi, how are you? "(and I really thought they actually cared and meant “how are you doing?” every time they said it, but then I realized more and more that it’s mostly just a way for them to start a dialog. But I think it sounds nice!).

If I am going to translate the sentence from the book so it would fit a Swede, I would write:
"Sit next to a Swedish person on an airplane and he turns his back towards you, staring out towards the cloudy gray sky with music in his ears and looks as" busy and unavailable"as he possibly can. He/She may say something – but only if he/she must. Maybe he has to pass you to get out from the seats to go to the bathroom, and he might open his mouth and say “....*ahem*..."Goes to the bathroom, comes back and goes back to the same position.

Am I mean now or just honest? Well you have your opinion, this is my haha.
..... To be continued....

Americans are freakily friendly. In London nobody talks to you...in fact they go out of their way to look the other way, and if they are forced into eye contact, it will be a quick smile.

Insane!
